IGNORE THE TITLE... this is a salvation tract in book form. Rating:
1 / 5
Basically, this is a pure and unabashed "get saved" right wing religious conservative tract. You know, the ones who believe only their denomination / independent church gets to go to heaven. Because they do the little aisle walk...which is not scriptural. Jesus never gave altar calls.
This pomposity in Christian writing that has had a groundswell is fueled by the whole holiness doctrine that has the arrogance to believe that we in ourselves can present our works of righteousness to a holy God and "help" Jesus to gain our admission to heaven. Jesus PLUS our works Christianity. Next they will be selling "Indulgences"... the payment of money for a dead relative to be removed from purgatory.
Also the book is not scriptural in its theology of our relationship to God. Reading this book, Warren states in other words that we are nothing, God is everything. Jesus did not die for nothings. God loves us. Hard to grasp that with this brutal verbal demolition of self esteem, and attack on worth of the Christian in the sight of God.
By the way...you probably think that this book will help you find your vocation or calling in life. That is certainly what my thought was. Well, forget it. This is no self improvement book that will get you on the right track to a fulfilling job... serving God or not. This book has nothing to do with either a Christian or a non-Christian finding out their purpose for being here on this earth.
Let me save you time and trouble. Summation of what Warren has to say...basically... "We are nothing. God is everything. We are here to serve Him, and thats all you need to know. Are you saved? If you are not saved, get saved. Don't know what line of work or pursuit of career to follow in life? That is not the purpose of this book...misleading as that may be. But, I gotcha to buy a book, and I can be excused for not helping you in your career choice, cause I told ya to get saved. Yup, this is just a giant, expensive, fundamentalist salvation tract. Thanks for the greenbacks!"
And so, Jesus is pimped out again in the name of religion for gain of filthy lucre. Say it ain't so, Judas, say it ain't so!
The best book for the soul ! Rating:
